Mahogany Glazed Spare Ribs

I had previously contributed a recipe on Huffington Post (you can see the post here) and I had so much fun with it that I wanted to incorporate recipes onto my own website.  Here is my recipe for Mahogany Glazed Spare Ribs.  This was taken from a recipe provided to us in Intro to Catering class I took at a community college, although I attended this class as a high school student to get a head start on earning college credits.  I learned early on how to make beautiful and delectable finger foods, snacks and hors d'oeuvres.

Mahogany Glazed Spare Ribs

You will need:

⅓ cup rice vinegar

¼ cup water

2 large garlic cloves, crushed

5 lbs spare ribs, cut into individual spare ribs

½ cup hoisin sauce

1 ½ tbsp. Minced fresh ginger

1 ½ tbsp. Soy sauce

1 tsp. Chinese chili-garlic sauce

Total time: 40 minutes.  Serves 6.

1. Pre-heat the oven to 375ºF, or if using an outdoor grill, light a grill.  In a small bowl, combine the vinegar and water with the garlic.  Place the spareribs in the oven or grill over medium-low fire until golden brown, brushing frequently with the garlic mixture and turning occasionally, for about 25 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the hoisin sauce with the minced ginger soy sauce, and chili-garlic sauce. Brush the hoisin sauce glaze on the spareribs in the oven or grill, turning occasionally, until they are deep mahogany, for about 10 minutes longer.  Transfer the spareribs onto a plate and serve with lots of napkins.

I made these ribs a few weekends ago at a housewarming party for a friend, and I actually used the oven method, then put the ribs on an outdoor grill to make it more charred.  It was delicious, and everyone who attended the party enjoyed the ribs a lot!  I hope you enjoyed my first recipe post.  More to come in the future!
